The last we heard, the fire had consumed over 6500 acres, and was only 5% contained. The winds have died down the last couple of days which has helped the firefighters. Also heard that the monsoon gods have answered our prayers because the first of a series of monsoon storms is supposed to hit this afternoon which certainly will help to keep the wildfire from spreading. The following are just a few pictures we shot the morning we left our camp. The forest was eerily silent - almost as if all the wildlife had fled the area...........
Well the monsoons have finally arrived, and we have had some pretty good thunderstorms the last few days. It looks like they have the fire almost 95% contained with over 7,000 acres burned. I bet the town of Vernon which was directly in the path of the wild fire is relieved to see the wet weather. Even though the fire kind of spoiled our camping trip, with the arrival of the monsoons, it won't be long until the Fire Restrictions are lifted!!
The following is just a short video of the choppers flying over our campsite. We had a couple of the large tankers fly over too.
