Garden of the Gods! You won't find a more picturesque place to hike in Colorado. These pics were taken a couple of years ago during a sight-seeing trip to Colorado. About 65 million years ago tectonic forces of the North American plate pushed the ancient sand dune formations to their near vertical positions we see today. Time and soil erosion have exposed the ancient inland sea beds. There is also a rich history of ancient Native American settlements in the area.
The only thing I didn't like about the park was the fact that it is a very popular destination just outside of Colorado Springs! Just a little bit too crowded for me - Lots of Hikers, Bikers, and Equestrians.
Close up of Cathedral Valley's other worldly sandstone spires.
The following is a picture of my husband Don from the Visitor's Center.
The "Balanced Rock" formation within Garden of the Gods! I had to wait a few minutes to get this pic as several teenagers were climbing on top of it!
The following rock formation is locally known as the "Kissing Camels".
