The following are some of the pictures I took of the Botanical Gardens at Besh-Ba-Gowah.
What a monster! This has got to be one of the largest Agaves I have ever seen!
Whoever named this the Teddy Bear Cactus must have had a real sense of humor - they are neither cute nor cuddly! What a wicked, wicked plant!! They are extremely painful and have a tendency to jump out at you at the slightest touch!
I think the common name for this species of cactus is Cow's Tonque, but they look more like rabbit ears to me!!
What a beautiful specimen of the Purple Prickly Pear!
A nice grouping of Barrel Cactus! Pueblo Indians often used the tuff spines of this cactus as sewing needles! Also referred to as the Compass Cactus because it tends to lean to the South.
A nice patch of Hedgehogs. I have seen quite of few of these guys while hiking, and they are downright dangerous because they are so easy to trip over!
I think they call this one the Beaver Tail cactus- which seems very appropriate!
